To start off our new community section here, I would like to introducer Eric LaCroix, a 20 something theorist who is onboard our ship.  
This particular document is the SuperString Theory M8):

The universe consists in superstrings, in bundles and in strange shapes which dictate the structure of the cosmos and all things within the universe (and perhaps the multiverses if the reader is open to such a concept). these are infinitely dense, and are sub-microscopic: in other words, <10- grams in mass and >10 kilograms per metre cubed {<10- g, >10 kg/m3}. superstrings are the very fabric of the universe, and could almost be compared to cloth, except that such comparisons suggest a four-dimensional quality, which belies the complexity of the myriad dimensions in which superstrings exist. but then again, we can only really conceive of four dimensions, these being the obvious spatial dimensions (length, width, and depth) and the not so obvious fourth dimension, time, which runs reverse to space. as we travel faster through space, time is "slowing down". time "speeds up" when bodies are at rest. linear concepts keep us from seeing this any other way. ego and all other constructs of our "reality" exist only as long as we stay within measurable, conceivable ranges (finite) and within these four dimensions, with time and space as reflections mathematically of the range of our perception. we progress through space more slowly as we speed up through time and that when we accelerate towards light speed we slow down our progress through time. aging, our physical expression of the effects of time on our corporeal forms in the three dimensions we so naively call "reality". superstring theory explains all the intricacies of this simpler math but also the complex forms that exist in the universe. mathematically, a ripple or pull on one string will affect the rest of the "grid" and lead to a fractal causal reflection at macrocosmic levels -- ripples in the pond are the classic relativity example. Einstein's universe crosses over with quantum uncertainty with superstring theory. The semblance of order in the universe and the idea that God does not play dice with the universe was always classically challenged by the randomness of chaos and quantum mechanics. But taken philosophically, superstring theory and its extension, M-theory fits in beautifully with holistic viewpoints.


Enough about the numbers though. In quantum theory and relativity theory are a lot of missing pieces - places where irrational numbers are involved in calculations, gaps galore. Superstring theory, the new theory of everything, dubbed "M-theory", "strings" together these two concepts, and explains a few odd principles that have baffled both schools of thought for ages. The strings wrap in on themselves into tight shapes at nexus points (if things even operate that way in other dimensions), which are really pretty much everywhere, where upwards of 12 theoretical dimensions beyond time exist. It is not known if these would be negative dimensions, like time, or positive dimensions, like the primary three spatial dimensions. The math has been impossibly complex for the longest time because a) quantum math is really difficult and b) due to the uncertainty principle no measurements are ever truly accurate, from electron spin, to more complex math involving radical or imaginary numbers such as i (the square root of -1) or even , a real number but one which fully demonstrates Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle. This principle states that a measurement is only as precise as the tools for, and the observer of, the data. Perception affects our ability to make precise measurements, and rounding becomes a common way to record information. Now, of course, the tools out there are quite advanced and capable of some very fine measurements, however a margin of error always exists. At quantum levels (ie nano-) a small margin of error turns into a huge difference. This relates back to the earlier mention of multiple universes or multiverses.
