Summer of 1995 - SchoolHouse Experience Credo =============================================== We are a group of creative young people who have travelled from Toronto, Ontario to LaHave, Nova Scotia, where we are living for the month of July in a converted schoolhouse. Here we attempt to collaborate on workshops and activities connected to alternative education, intentional community, and ecological sustainability. We have minimized our electricity and water use, by utilizing solar water heaters & a wood burning stove. Our diet has been almost exclusively vegetarian and to a large extent organically and locally produced. So far we have conducted workshops on total art, collaborative writing, transcendental drumming, chakras and chanting, ritual theatre, tai chi, and palmistry. Upcoming workshops include continued exploration of these topics, as well as mask-making, zen meditation, breadmaking, improv drama, creative movement, language, shiatsu, and colour. Also planned are a presentation omeditat breadmaking, improv drama, creative movement, a presentation on Africville, a SCUBA dive, and field trips to local areas and events of interest. Our regular recreational activities include camping trips, film-screenings, readings, and game-playing. It is our hope that other people will become involved with our project and share the enriching experiences it offers. We are always interested in extending our community and making new friends. For this reason, we are hosting an immediatist potlatch dinner party this Saturday, July 22. All are welcome. The purpose of immediatism is to overcome alienation by removing intervening impersonal media. To this effect, each person should bring a personally made gift to the potlatch. This gift will be given to one other person at random, so everyone will leave having given and received one present. Each person should also bring a dish to serve about eight people, which should also be personally prepared at much as possible. Performances or other offerings to the group are acceptable in lieu of food. Please phone in advance to let us know if you are coming, and what contribution you intend to bring. Plan to arrive any time after five. Dinner will be served at eight. You are welcome to stay the night if you can bring your own tent and/or a portable mattress if possible. Phone us at (902) 688-1498 or email 'ah898@ccn.cs.dal.ca'. 104 Schoolhouse Road We look forward to meeting you. The above contact information is no longer valid.
